World Book Day

“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” ~Mason Cooley

Engulfed in a book is one of the best pastimes. I’ve shared my love of reading quite often across social platforms & here I am again to spread the love for World Book Day. Many of the books I own I’ve already read but there’s a collection of those shelf adornments still vying for attention.

Do you have books you’ve bought but haven’t read? I’m terribly guilty. I have a love affair with books so it’s hard not to purchase them when they’re on sale. Being home more often nowadays is definitely giving me a chance to catch up on some reading. I’m not mad about it!

A couple of years ago, I threw away many of my books. They were destroyed in our storage shed & that hurt me to my core. Because the situation gave me no choice, I turned it into a win by thinking of the mountain of books I’m yet to read. Those will continue to be the replacements! Luckily, some of my faves were safe at a relatives home. Always have a fellow book connoisseur in your corner!

My favorite genres you ask???

World book day

I thoroughly enjoy biographies & autobiographies. When people (past or present) interest you, get to know them by reading about their journey. The intimate details, struggles, wins, settings, life events, etc. will transport you right into their world. You’ll learn what made them who they are. You’ll also seejust how much you have in common with others.

Self-help & personal development books also make up a chunk of my collection. I’m always seeking to better myself. Honestly, for the past couple of years I’ve used the library more often. I’m thankful to borrow books & then buy the ones I thoroughly enjoy. That has saved me a lot of money AND space. We NEED our libraries so please use them! For some of my latest faves in this genre, go here.

Comedies bring me so much joy! Whether the book is about parenting, life in general, or even romance, I enjoy a good laugh. Reading, just like laughter, is good for the soul. Combine the two & you’ve hit the jackpot!

Fiction… I once indulged in this genre. However, the last fiction book I read was a random occurrence. I was determined to read something new & came across the book in my collection. It was one that had been passed on or picked up from somewhere. I didn’t buy it. The book was a great read. It told the story of a child raised in a dysfunctional family. There was so much turmoil which made it an emotional read for me. Unfortunately, I can’t recall the title/author but I’ll update this post if I find it.

If you can’t tell by now, reading is an important part of my life. It always has been. Even as a child, I had a book in hand when I wasn’t adventuring outdoors. I’ve raised my daughters to enjoy reading as well. Introducing them to some of my favorite childhood books has been lots of fun. Hmmmm…. maybe their next post will be about their favorite books. Stay tuned for that!

What are your favorite genres to read? Feel free to include titles and authors of your faves.

Happy World Book Day everyone! I hope you curl up or stretch out somewhere comfy with a good book in hand. Allow the pages to transport you to another world or time period. It’s the best thing ever! Don’t forget to grab a cup of something good on the way, Do it all with urgency as the day is steadily going by!
