I thought this exhibit was hauntingly beautiful. Sure, I admired Vincent Van Gogh's gorgeous artwork, but I was also moved to see him as a deeply troubled and struggling human being. Van Gogh's mental health crises, complicated relationships, and deferred dreams led to the cutting off of his own left ear (after an argument with a friend), and then later ending his life. His last painting, Tree Roots, was completed just hours before he passed away. The exhibit has ended in Winston Salem, NC, but if it comes to your area, you should see it. Like me, I hope you'll come to equally appreciate his journey and the finished products of his work.
