Plant Updates: What's New

I still consider myself a novice in this green thumb world although I’m learning a lot daily. The plants I introduced you to in a recent post are doing well, but we’ve had issues for sure. I’ll explain the problems, solutions, wins, & failures in future posts to assist you on your journey.

From that time until now, I’ve purchased & adopted a few more plants. My green family has grown. Without further adieu, allow me to introduce you to them.


Yucca

I was given this plant by a family member. My daughters named it Rico. I’ve learned Yuccas love full sun & little water. It’s been a month or so now & problems aside, I’ve found this plant to be low maintenance.

Chives

These were also given to me from the same family member’s garden. I’ve used them in various foods & they’re steadily growing. With full sun & frequent watering, they thrive. Anything less & they don’t. Lesson learned.

Persian Shield

Pearl, also named by my daughters. A tropical plant that can tolerate full sun or partial shade. She loves moisture & high humidity is a wonderful thing!

Having this plant has been a learning curve. I’ve had to learn how to keep it moist without drowning/over watering. So far, besides watering once or twice per week, I’ve created a humid environment for Pearl. I put small rocks in a saucer, added water, & placed her on top of the rocks.

Prior to doing this, Pearl’s leaves felt crispy & the tips were turning brown. Now the leaves feel cold, moist, & she’s thriving again. Thank you Google!

Green Onions

This is my second time growing green onions. And this round was way more successful. I’ve enjoyed eating them in soups & as a topping on various other dishes.

I didn’t grow these from seeds. Instead, after using up a bag from the store, I simply put the roots in a small glass with distilled/bottled water. I change the water every three days as well as rinse the roots. The onions sit in the window all day for full sun.

Needless to say, they’re thriving.
