How To Spend A Weekend In Asheboro, NC

It was a trip back to Asheboro, NC & a full weekend of activity was in store for us. We visited in April & started writing this post in May. For the sake of thoroughness, however, we waited until all WRAL articles were published to share it with you. Use this itinerary as a starting point to plan your trip.

Thanks so much, The Heart of NC, for hosting our stay!

First things first… FOOD!

We drove down on a late Friday morning for a group lunch at Magnolia 23. The restaurant is known for its famous fried chicken but let me tell you, there are blessed hands in that kitchen! From chicken, to collard greens, potato salad, and strawberry nut cake, I could only smile between bites.

It's a great first stop if you're hungry and want down-home southern cuisine done right. In the photo below is the founder of this great place. He was proud to inform us that his daughters now own the business & he works for them. I think that's amazing.

My advice? When in Asheboro, get there!

Another great restaurant in the area is The Table Farm Bakery. My mouth is watering as I type this. I give you full details of our meals, the restaurant, the owner, etc., in a WRAL News article. Follow the link to read all about it & prep for your own visit.

HOTEL - Fairfield Inn & Suites Asheboro

Fairfield Inn was good to us. Everyone was very friendly & offered great suggestions about places in the area. Our room was clean & cozy with the essentials included (a microwave & a mini fridge). Although coffee was available in our room, I opted for freshly brewed cups in the lobby/breakfast area. Complimentary breakfast is offered daily but we chose to eat out. Follow the link above for additional information & to make reservations. My youngest also gives a tour of our room in the vlog below.

Let's Go Shopping…

Magnolia 23 is right in the heart of downtown Asheboro. Therefore, walking out of the front door transports you into a busy area of shopping, colorful murals, coffee shops, & more dining experiences. A few places we purchased from are:

1. The Flea Marketeers- antiques, collectibles, hidden gems

2. Antiques & Geeks Collectibles- odds & ends, vintage toys, designer bags, video games, comic books, etc.

3. Minkology (see inside)- jewelry, accessories, furniture, gifts, & more. Head to the back of Minkology & treat yourself to a cup of sweet, creamy ice cream!

A nearby town with a different type of shopping experience is Seagrove, NC. It's a pottery lover's dream & that's exactly what it's known for! We visited the studios of two incredible potters with differing styles, Crystal King Pottery & Eck McCanless Pottery. They are amazingly talented people you should learn more about. Follow the link above.

Be sure to visit their websites for events & classes. There may be activities you can add to your itinerary. In their shops you'll find items like mugs, jewelry, face jugs, candles, sculpted bowls, and more!

Attractions…

The NC Aviation Museum and Hall of Fame is an interesting stop. The museum is filled with restored vintage war aircraft and in-depth educational material concerning military history and aviation. If anyone in your party gets excited about big engines, airplanes, military jeeps, and the like, this is the stop for them.

Next, take a relaxing drive down country roads to Pisgah Covered Bridge. We stopped by after leaving the Aviation Museum. This bridge is one of only two remaining in North Carolina. It serves as a piece of history & a portal for time travel if you're imaginative.

At Linbrook Heritage Estate is where our weekend excursions ended. We enjoyed an evening picnic catered by The Table restaurant I mentioned earlier. As well as a brilliant play by Rhinoleap Productions. Tours are available of Linbrook Hall by reservation.

You can watch all we did & more in our Youtube vlog:

One more fantastic attraction we enjoy in Asheboro is the North Carolina Zoo. The last time my family visited together for a full tour was in 2021. However, we have an upcoming visit & plenty of content coming soon. Be on the lookout. Big things are happening there that are very exciting! I mentioned some of them in a previous blog post.

We will definitely return to the area to discover even more gems & give you the scoop on what we find.
