An Evening At Lake Michael Park

COVID-19 has attempted to eliminate spontaneous summer adventures for 2020 but they’re still out there. Annnd… we can enjoy them safely. The most important thing, once again, is preparation. I know being prepared seemingly contradicts spontaneity but I’ll elaborate.

I promise.

My family loves to play tourist in the areas around us. How about you? Just because the activity is local doesn’t mean you’ve experienced it. You can visit the same place numerous times but do different things. For instance, the park. One visit can be for playground fun. The next for a walk & a picnic. How about a family sport competition the 3rd time?

As always, get creative!

My @2pbgirls & I decided to visit a lake we’d never been to: Lake Michael in Mebane, NC. It was a spontaneous decision we made while prepping for errands. We grabbed extra water & snacks on the way out just in case. One way I stay prepared is by keeping our face masks in my purse (with extras) & a few essential oils on hand to use as bug repellants. I also try to ensure we have sneakers handy. We never know when we’ll need them.

Our trip to Lake Michael was strictly out of curiosity & for visual purposes. After doing online research & seeing photos, we had to check it out. We have a real thing for beautiful landscapes!

The park offers fishing with an NC fishing license, two piers, boat access (kayaks/canoes included), paddle & jon boat rentals, a playground, pontoon boat rides, sand volleyball, hiking trails, restrooms, picnic tables, park benches, grills, & covered shelter rentals for gatherings. Unfortunately, due to pandemic related restrictions, many of these activities are off limits for now.

We didn’t expect to do much this time. We simply wanted to see the water, take a casual walk, & capture a few photos. If you don’t have photos, you didn’t do it right? We also knew the playground would be off limits but my girls always find ways to amuse themselves.

Here on the blog, we always encourage you to get out more. To be creative with your adventures but not complicated. Our family believes in & lives by budget-friendly activities. Find new things to do in your area or new ways to do old things.

If you can’t leave your home or are afraid to, backyard adventures are plentiful. You just have to keep your muse handy & creativity flowing. It’s definitely possible.

If you head out, however, be prepared with the essentials. Living through a pandemic is one thing. Trying to maintain an adventurous life while staying safe is another. So make a check-off list if need be to keep yourself organized & adventure ready.

Have you visited all of the parks & lakes in your area? If not, make plans for those. Enjoy a treat while there or plan an activity like a nature scavenger hunt. One thing we do is try to find something outdoors for each letter of the alphabet. These activities alone keep you alert & focused on what’s around you.

Try it next time & let me know how it goes!
