An Adventurous Date Idea For Valentine's Day

Want to get a little adventurous for your next Valentine’s Day? I like the way you think! I have a few out of the ordinary suggestions.

How about exploring a home locals believe to be cursed? Or joining a response team to head deep into the woods? How about checking into an old, sketchy, run-down motel? Use caution here because you don’t know if guests who check in actually check out!

Hmmm… Are these ideas adventurous enough? Johnny & I chose to tempt our fates in a dilapidated motel. What could be more romantic than locking ourselves in a room together for Valentine's Day?!

Have you ever tried an escape room? This was our first time & we had a blast at Game On Escapes in Cary, NC. A huge thanks to them for hosting us & making our Valentine's date a fun one!

First Things First

We had a 3:30 p.m. reservation. A staff member was waiting & greeted us with a smile. We first read over & signed a waiver. You can also do this online prior to your arrival. Then we watched a 1-2 minute video explaining how everything works.

Easy peasy!

Per suggestion, we used the restroom before getting started. You can exit your escape room during your visit but you don’t receive extra time. The clock continues to count down.

The Room

The Rest Easy Motel was our destination for the night. It was more like 60 minutes but things got wild in there! There were mysterious noises, clues to discover & solve, & other unexpected surprises. The website labels this room as “hard” & it definitely was not a walk in the park.

There is a t.v. screen on the wall of each room displaying your diminishing time. On this screen, staff members are also able to communicate with you by offering hints/clues if you choose to accept them. We ended up being very thankful for the ones we received!

I can’t go into much detail about the room without spoiling your inevitable fun. However, I will say enter every escape room with an open mind, pay attention to details, & learn to think outside the box. Better yet… just throw the whole box away!

Admittedly, our brains were wired & we were tired after leaving that motel. I guess that’s what a Valentine’s Day motel stay should be like, huh? What say you?

Did We Escape

Unfortunately, we’ve joined the list of missing guests who checked into the Rest Easy Motel but didn’t check out. It was reassuring to learn we did really well & only had 4 more clues to solve. Johnny & I learned a lot about one another during those 60 minutes & were reminded how good of a team we are. I’m confident in our ability to make it through hard times whether real or imagined.

Like most couples, life has dealt us some blows but we’re still standing. We’re still loving, still growing, still clinging onto each other for dear love & life. That is something we don’t take lightly. After all, Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love, reminding us of our journeys, & strengthening our bonds right?

If you’ve visited an escape room, let us know your experience. Did you escape? Is there one you’ve visited multiple times but haven’t yet mastered? We’re now hooked & determined to return to Game On Escapes. Not only do we have to conquer the Rest Easy Motel, we have to try out the others as well. I think we’ll try the jungle room next time! Our daughters want to visit, too, so looks like we have no choice.
