Canoeing and Hiking With The Kids

Was he crazy... making me get in the front of the canoe? ME??? He knows dark water and I don't get along. There are things in there looking at me that I can't see! If you watch nature and travel channels like I do, you know the type of creatures I'm referring to!

My daughters were watching me intently while dealing with their own nervous excitement. I always want to be the example of feminine courage for them- even when that means walking away from something. This time, however, I chose to go for it.

I stepped into the wobbly canoe, trying not to think about the muddy, dark water surrounding us. I took my seat with a forced smile and coaxed my daughters into theirs. This was the beginning of our weekend adventures.

To get a firsthand look at what we were up to, check out our video below! Be sure to subscribe to our channel to keep up with us. We have a lot of fun planned for the upcoming months!

Daily life can be extremely hectic in my household. I'm sure you can relate. Although we have soccer practices, games, story time, work, errands to run, and projects to complete, we do our best to make each activity an adventure.

We like to be outside on nice days, make trails instead of taking familiar paths, and do things we've never done before. Spring is here, summer is on the way, and we can't wait to explore!

What adventures are in your upcoming plans?

The checklist for this adventure with our daughters:

  • Bug repellent or an essential oil (lemongrass, lavender)
  • Medium sized backpack to carry everything in & free my hands
  • Charged phone and flashlight
  • Some form of personal protection
  • Weather appropriate clothing
