Creating Peace One Load At A Time

Today is a big day. It's big for you and for me, but in different ways. Of course, it's Election Day. So there's that and I'm truly thrilled about it because politics have exhausted me this time around!

It's a big day for me because I am DONATING! Yes... donating. My enthusiasm knows no bounds! Clutter has caused me to not be at peace but I'm doing something about it. I've finally loaded up bags and boxes of mental stress.

I've loaded the stress that flowed from my children's playroom and bedroom into the hallway; the stress that made itself comfy on every floor, counter top, and seating area of my home; the stress that threatened to end life (as I know it) by tripping me up and watching my face crash into the floor. Do you know the stress I'm referring to????

Toys, TOys, TOYS!

Okay, it's not all toys. I have my share of excess, too. Plenty of it! Things that have been passed down, given to me, and shared with me. I'm truly blessed, however, I no longer have space to contain all of those blessings and neither do my children. My girls are the first grandchildren on either side of the family. Get the picture now?!

It's time to spread the love, get rid of old, and make room for new.

I remember a time when having a lot of things sparked something within me. It made me feel special, as though I'd made it. Made it to where exactly? I have no clue! Since becoming a parent, having excess just means there's more to keep up with and clean and preserve and dust and fold and I'm over it.

Like seriously over it!

The last time I donated significantly was 2-3 years ago (see it here). It was exhilarating to let go of things that no longer served me and knowing that others were being helped in the process made it all more rewarding. I don't mind making small donations to Goodwill but big loads go to the nearest shelters and donation centers.

My daughters always participate but each time we do this they are older and more capable of understanding the magnitude of our endeavor. This year, they are getting a crash course in giving! It's either give or watch mommy check herself into a cozy room with padded walls.

Have you ever noticed how mentally frustrated you become when surrounded by clutter? No? Is it just me or do we share in this experience?

I can't be creative or at peace when things are unorganized. I admit, I am one of those people who understands the concept of organized mess (I have that, too!), but it feels so artificial. At my core, I know it's still a fail that I can turn around for the better!

In my opinion, organized messes are synonymous with sweeping dirt under a rug or throwing junk in a closet when company's coming. It's like that room you throw everything into and then slam the door so no one dares witness your truth.

Organization is peace of mind for me. It is productivity and progress. It is also confidence and integrity.  I have business to conduct, projects to complete, kid events to attend, homework to check, an intimate relationship to nourish, and even more life to live! I don't have time nor energy to hunt for things and rush around because I don't have my ish together.

I'm on the road to clutter freedom and I'm loving it! I am determined to set an example for my daughters so they will understand the importance of organization and clarity. Clutter affects every area of life whether you admit it or not. Here I am... admitting my reality to the world (or at least the one person who will read this post).

Are you an organized person or harboring organized mess? I want to hear your side of things.
